PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a pattern identification method or the like for improving authentication precision. SOLUTION: Two or more shape values showing a pattern shape are calculated for every biological pattern to be acquired from a plurality of biological samples, and the center of the distribution of the two or more shape values and a value showing the level of spread from the center are calculated, and a distance between the two or more shape values of the pattern to be acquired from a registration object or a collation object to be collated with the registration data and the center of the distribution of the two or more shape values is calculated by using a value showing the level of spread from the center, and when the distance is larger than a predetermined threshold, the pattern is discarded.
