The controller also comprises a reserving means for reserving the execution of the intake air amount reducing treatment until a predetermined periodΔtd1y shorter than the periodΔtch in which a catalytic converter 33 installed in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine 1 is heated to an allowable maximum temperature Tch is passed after the condition for starting the intake air amount reducing treatment is established.
