PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which achieves a higher washing capability in view of the tendency of making the washing rate by its tap washing utilizing a natural drop of washing inferior to that by the rub washing with a pulsator in the pulsator vertical type washing machine because of less mechanical force despite a merit of required less washing water. SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine has an outer tub with a shape of a cylinder provided within an outer frame cabinet for storing washing and rinsing water, a washing drum tub 11 which is so arranged as to be freely rotatable within the outer tub with a horizontal axis line of rotation, a lifter 16 which is so arranged on the inner circumference of the washing drum tub 11 as to get the washing 9 raked up or fallen within the washing drum tub 11 and a motor for rotatively driving the washing drum tub 11. At the position where the lifter 16 is moved in the direction of rotation (60-70)°from the horizontal reference axis XO running through the axis line of rotation, the surface of a front rake up side wall part 16C of the lifter 16 almost parallels the vertical reference axis YO running through the axis line of rotation passes.
