<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerating agent which is used for keeping cool an article to be cooled that has a suitable cooling temperature in the range of >0°C and <10°C and which satisfies the following characteristics: (1) having no or a little fluidity; (2) having a phase change temperature (melting point) in response to a suitable temperature or temperature range (henceforth "suitable cooling temperature") desired for an article to be kept cool (henceforth "keeping cool article"); (3) having a large latent heat; (4) having a large specific heat in the liquid state of the refrigerating agent; (5) repeated solidifications and thaws do not cause the phase separation or the deterioration of the properties; (6) the change of the thawing temperature is as small as possible; and (7) being inflammable, and to provide a refrigerating material comprising the refrigerating agent and a case or a bag holding the refrigeration agent therein. <P>SOLUTION: The refrigerating agent comprises a tri-n-butyl alkyl ammonium salt, water and a gelling agent.
