A signal output device for a digital interface and a method thereof are provided to determine a type of a digital interface cable automatically and output a message for notifying a user of the replacement of the digital interface cable or notifying a message for notifying the user of setting output resolution suitable for resolution which the digital interface cable supports, thereby enabling a display device such as a digital TV to display an optimal screen constantly. A method for outputting a signal in a digital interface comprises the following steps of: determining whether an HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable is connected between a DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) player and a digital TV(S500); determining whether the connected HDMI is a low-resolution category1(S510); determining whether the clock of resolution currently set as output exceeds 74.25MHz for comparing a type of the HDMI cable with the output resolution of the digital TV(S520); and outputting a message for notifying a user of the replacement of the connection HDMI cable or the output of an abnormal screen when the currently set clock of the resolution exceeds 74.25MHz(S530).
