An RFID system includes a generating part which generates a response control information for controlling generation of a tag's response to a search command; a part for transmitting, to the RFID tag a search command for detecting whether an RFID tag exists in the communication-enabled range, together with the generated response control information. The response control information is stored in a non-volatile storage of the tag upon successful communication. A response to the search command is generated by the tag only under the condition that the response control information sent with the search command is different from the response control information stored in the tag. The response control information may take the form of a time stamp or may be a random number.
