The present invention provides a piezoelectric safety lighter 12 which includes a lighter casing 10, a trigger button (1 fig 2), a safety button 2, a piezoelectric device (PZ), and a lever 4 with one end pivotally mounted within the casing at a pivot point ('x' fig 2). The trigger button is arranged to operate the lever and to trigger the piezoelectric device, via a projection (4B fig 2) on the lever which bears against a plunger (P) of the piezoelectric device (PZ). The safety button 2 is slidably mounted on the trigger button and engaged with a spring loaded safety lock member 3. The safety lock member is slidably mounted in the trigger button, and has a projecting stepped portion 3A which is normally engaged with a corresponding recess 4A of the lever to prevent depression of the trigger button. When in use, the safety button must be slid to disengage the safety lock member from the lever to allow depression of the trigger button. |
