Product comprises a polyelectrolyte membrane containing an ionomer and an additive or its mixture containing metal oxides preferably from cerium, manganese, vanadium, platinum, ruthenium, zirconium, nickel, chromium, tungsten, cobalt, molybdenum or tin. An independent claim is included for the preparation of the product comprising forming a dispersion containing a first ionomer, an additive, at least an alcohol or water, molding and drying the dispersion to form a first layer, which contains the first ionomer and the additive, where the additive contains a metal oxide having a metal oxide unit with a purity of 90-100%, and metal oxide is from at least a metal of cerium, manganese, vanadium, platinum, ruthenium, zirconium, nickel, chromium, tungsten, cobalt, molybdenum or tin.
