An apparatus and a method for registering un-registered telephone numbers in a portable terminal are provided to store a telephone number with a large number of call frequencies automatically among the un-registered telephone numbers. A process for confirming a call list is performed(301) and a process for discriminating whether a call number exists with many calling frequencies is performed(305). When a call number exists with many calling frequencies, the call number is stored(311). When storing the call number with many calling frequencies, a process for confirming a previously determined storing mode is performed(307). When the previously determined storing mode is an auto storing mode, a process for producing the storing information is performed(309). When the previously determined storing mode is a manual mode, a process for outputting a storing information setting screen is performed(313). When the storing information setting is finished, the storing information and the call number are stored.
