A method of forming a mark on a product

A method of forming a mark on a surface of a food product utilises an edible hot melt ink and the method includes heating the hot melt ink to a temperature sufficient to liquefy the ink, ejecting droplets of melted ink from a pumping chamber of a drop-on-demand piezoelectric ink jet printhead to form the mark having a resolution of at least 50 dpi, wherein the ink includes 50% to 99% by weight wax and a colorant and wherein the ink has a melting temperature of between 40°C and 100°C.
