A novel 'K' fermenter is introduced to replace conventional fermenters for culturing known aerobic micro-aerophilic or anaerobic micro-organisms. 'K' fermenters use a special support coated by a film of a thin nutrient layer. This novel technology employs ''solid'' fermentation. The salient feature of this method is that periodically the culture is agitated slowly; the number of agitators depends on the total generation time of a particular microbial gp. Optionally low intensity aeration also takes place. Incubation periods generally correspond to eight generation cycles. This technology produces identical results compared to classical ''liquid'' fermentation method, but is considerably more economical. |
