A system and a method for providing alarm information in a remote meter reading system are provided to enable a user to manage a usage amount of supplied water, electricity or gas economically when the usage amount grows abruptly. A system for providing alarm information includes a remote meter reading unit(10), an alarm information management module(24), an alarm information transmitting module(29), and a signal converting module(32). The remote meter reading unit includes a digital metering device for metering a usage amount of supplied water, gas or electricity, a wireless/wired modem for transmitting the metered data, and a remote meter reading database server for storing the metered data transmitted from the wireless/wired modem. The alarm information management module receives the metered data from the remote meter reading database, and transmits an alarm message if the usage amount is over a threshold. The alarm information transmitting module includes a data encoder and a return server which receives the alarm message from the alarm information management module and encodes the received alarm message. The signal converting module receives the alarm message from the data encoder, modulates the received alarm message, transmits the modulated alarm message to a TV set top box, receives a customer request signal of a remote controller from the set top box, and transmits the received customer request signal to the return server. |
