A terminal and a method for compensating sound quality are provided to compensate frequency distortion of a sound signal according to compensation gain coefficient, thereby significantly improving call quality. A filtering unit(130) converts an inputted sound signal from a time domain into a frequency domain. A compensation table(140) stores frequency values at which the sound signal has the optimal quality, and gain values corresponding to the frequency values. A controller(170) compares the frequency values of the frequency domain with frequency values of the compensation table, and compensates the frequency values of the frequency domain by using the gain values corresponding to the frequency values of the compensation table.
