An automatic power-saving system of a portable terminal using a proximity sensor and a method thereof are provided to prevent power consumption caused by wrong operation conducted by contact with a random object, as minimizing consumption of power used by an output unit and a touch screen unit, thereby using a battery attached to the terminal for a long time as possible. A proximity sensor unit(11) measures a proximity distance to a random external object, as being embedded in a portable terminal(10). A central controller(12) includes a function of controlling on/off actions of an output unit(14) and a touch screen unit(15) by using the measured proximity distance value. The central controller additionally has a power-saving function according to an operated program. |
