PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption by avoiding frequent operations of an engine for only charging as much as possible. SOLUTION: This air conditioner mounted on a hybrid vehicle comprises an engine 1, an electric generator 2, and a battery 4 supplying power to an electric generating means 2. The air conditioner controls the operation and the stop of the engine 1 for traveling according to the traveling conditions. When the remaining charged amount of the battery 4 is equal to or less than a target charging start value, the electric generator 2 is driven by the engine 1 for charging the battery 4. The air conditioner has an air conditioner unit 6 for air conditioning the inside of a cabin by receiving a power from the battery 4. A value higher than the target charging start value is set as a high charging state value. When the remaining charged amount of the battery 4 is equal to or less than the high charging state value, the capacity of the air conditioner is set lower than the exceeded the high charging state value of the remaining charged amount of the battery 4.
