A compound containing a T?p-aza(Phe) structure of the formula (I): wherein A is a bond, an a-amino acid or a residue of a dipeptide; R¹ is hydrogen or a protective group for a terminal amino group; R² is phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more substitutents selected from the group consisting of a lower alkyl, a halogen, hydroxyl which may be protected, nitro, amino which may be protected and perhalo lower alkyl; R³ is hydroxyl or a protective group for a terminal carboxyl group; or a prodrug thereof that is metabolisable to form a compound as defined above; is useful for the treatment of interstitial cystitis.
