PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high switching speed and to make compact while reducing noise by making switching operation possible in high temperature region. SOLUTION: The converter circuit (20) comprises a switching element (30) being supplied with power from a commercial power supply (11) and short-circuiting commercial power supply lines (13, 14) through a reactor (12), and converts the power supply power into DC power through rectification. The switching element (30) comprises an SiC element which is a wide band gap semiconductor element. The switching element (30) switches at a frequency of 15 kHz or above and has a maximum operating temperature of 150°C or above and a rated current smaller than that of a diode (31).
