PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator capable of generating much ion, with less variation in ion generation cycle, for stable ion generation. SOLUTION: The ion generator comprises a first current limiting means 1 and a second current limiting means 100 through which a charge current passes during charging, a transistor 101 for a switch which switches charge currents, and a shunt regulator 102 which is a voltage detecting means for detecting a voltage value. A first charge current that passes the first current limiting means 1 and second current limiting means 100 and a second charge current that passes only the first current limiting means 1 while bypassing the second current limiting means 100 via the switch transistor 101, are switched in two steps within a single cycle of specified cycles, depending on a reference voltage.
