An apparatus and a method for ripping in a digital recorder are provided to control identification of graphic data in a CD, so as to allow a user to reproducibly store different formats of data in the CD on a hard disk. An apparatus for ripping in a digital recorder comprises a first encoder(21), a decoder(22), a second encoder(26), and a storage unit(23). The first encoder encodes audio data from the data read from a disk in MP3 format. The decoder decodes graphic data from the data read from the disk. The second encoder encodes the decoded graphic data by one frame in MP4 format. The storage unit, which is a hard disk, stores the encoded data in the first and second encoders.
