<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for forming an image capable of setting a gamma correction curve so as to reduce gradation jumpings in both a low gradation region and a high gradation region when the same density is detected by a plurality of test-patch images in both the low gradation region and the high gradation region. <P>SOLUTION: When the same density is detected by a plurality of the test-patch images in both the low gradation region R1 and the high gradation region R2, either a maximum-gradation data value or a minimum-gradation data value is selected discretely in each of the low gradation region R1 and the high gradation region R2.
