PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head achieving accurate reading in accordance with a high recording density of a magnetic recording medium, and a magnetic recording device provided with the same. SOLUTION: A barrier metal layer 21, a protection layer 20, a free ferromagnetic layer 18b, a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 18a, a tunnel barrier layer 17, a pinned ferromagnetic layer 14b, a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 15, a pinned ferromagnetic layer 14a, an anti-ferromagnetic layer 13, and an alignment control film 12 are patterned by ion milling. An incidence direction of ions and an angle of a substrate are adjusted to incline surfaces to be worked of these layers, with respect to a surface of a shield layer 11. That is, the layers are formed in a taper shape so that lower layers are separated from an edge of a photo resist film. With respect to a size of the recording medium in a track width direction, a difference between an average length of the free ferromagnetic layer 18b and an average length of the free ferromagnetic layer 18a is set to a length equivalent to or shorter than a width of one track, for example, 7 nm.
