PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength controlling method and a tunable wavelength laser whereby the wavelength of the tunable wavelength laser is switched at a high speed and is stabilized. SOLUTION: In a wavelength controlling portion 150, when a wavelength-switching request signal is input in a wavelength-switching deciding portion 151 from the outside, the initial value of a wavelength controlling current is so determined in a current-initial-value setting portion 152 by the wavelengths obtained before and after switching as to output the initial value to a DBR driving portion 142. Thereafter, in a wavelength-feedback controlling portion 154, feedback control is so performed as to obtain a target wavelength, and the wavelength controlling current present within the scope allowed by a limiter controlling portion 155 is outputted to the DBR driving portion 142.
