In towing apparatus for ships and boats a flexible sheath 15 for the towing rope 1 is provided on the towing vessel and extends over the taff-rail 8 from near the point of tow so that no part of the towing rope comes into direct contact with the deck superstructure and chafing of the rope is thereby reduced. The sheathis formed as a helical coil of spring steel wire and is connected through a bearing enclosed in a housing 20, and a yoke 22 with a vertical pivot 25 on the deck. A lead-in ferrule 16 is provided. The ferrule and housing are readily detachable form the sheath so that the latter may be reversed.</p> |
