<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure an OSNR. <P>SOLUTION: The OSNR measuring instrument is adapted to measure the OSNR of a communication channel in a WDM optical communication system and comprises a signal control unit, a receiving unit, and a measuring unit. The signal control unit controls to narrow down the width of the signal spectrum of an optical signal transmitted on a channel to be measured. The receiving unit receives the data of the signal spectrum 101, measured from the optical signal received on the channel to be measured that is controlled by the signal control unit.
