PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of surely photographing an object for which photographing time is limited. SOLUTION: An image preservation part 15 holds image data generated in an imaging element 11 by the continuous shooting of the object, a luminance value detection part 12 detects the luminance values of the respective pixels of the image data, and a cumulative operation control part 13 calculates a cumulative luminance value for which the luminance values of the respective pixels of the image data are accumulated and preserves it in either one of cumulative luminance value preservation parts 14a or 14b. A cumulative luminance value comparison part 16 compares the cumulative luminance values held in the cumulative luminance value preservation parts 14a and 14b. An image preservation control part 17 selects the image data for recording from the image data preserved in the image preservation part 15 on the basis of a compared result.
