PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid developer excellent in preservable property and long-term stability, excellent in fixing characteristics of toner particles on a recording medium and environmentally friendly, and to provide an image forming apparatus capable of suitably using the above liquid developer. SOLUTION: The liquid developer contains toner particles dispersed in an insulating liquid, and is characterized in that: the insulating liquid contains fatty acid triglyceride and fatty acid monoester; the fatty acid triglyceride contains linoleic acid and saturated fatty acid as a fatty acid component; and the fatty acid monoester contains unsaturated fatty acid as a fatty acid component. The fatty acid triglyceride included in the insulating liquid preferably contains a linoleic acid component by 55 to 95 mol% and a saturated fatty acid component by 5 to 50 mol% with respect to the whole fatty acid component.
