An opto-electronic converter (OEC) (3) converts an optical signal modulated at an optical input (2) into an analog electric signal (AES). An adjuster (4) with an electrical link to the OEC converts the AEC into a digital signal for digital electric output. A quality detector (5) links to the OEC and defines the quality of the AES before converting it into a digital signal. - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a method for monitoring signal quality of a transmitted modulated optical signal.
