An image pickup apparatus is provided to move an image optical system in an optical direction to a moving member by using an actuator, thereby reducing the size of the image pickup apparatus. A first actuator(8) relatively moves an image optical system(2) and an image pickup element in a first direction perpendicular to an optical axis direction. A second actuator(6) relatively moves the image optical system and the imaging pickup element in a second direction, which is perpendicular to the optical axis and crosses the first direction. A moving member(5) is moved together with the optical system in the first direction by the first actuator, and moved together with the optical system in the second direction by the second actuator. A third actuator moves the image optical system relatively to the image optical system in the optical direction.
