<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a color filter in which the removal of a residue during development is made sure and the occurrence of chipping of an image can be suppressed and a color filter manufactured by the method, and a display device provided with the color filter. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the color filter includes; a photosensitive resin layer forming step of forming a photosensitive resin layer on a substrate: an exposure step of exposing the photosensitive resin layer; a developing step of developing the exposed photosensitive resin layer to form the image; a residue removing step of rubbing the surface of the image by a rotary brush using a cleaning solution to remove the residue sticking the image; and a heating step of heating the image in this order. The rotary brush is 30 to 70 μm in diameter and has brush bristles of 10 to 30 mm in length. The line speed of the rotary brush is 15 to 40 m/min.
