PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which can improve user's operability and can shorten a FCOT (First Copy Output Time) when reading an image. SOLUTION: When it is detected that a pressure plate 210 transits from an open state to a closing starting state by sensors 213, 214, a lamp 203 is lit and when a certain operation instruction is input from an operation part 235 by the time original size is fixed, a lighting state of the lamp 203 is maintained even after the pressure plate 210 is closed.
