PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved image forming apparatus, an improved nipping mechanism, and an improved image performance by providing a fusing nip mechanism. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus defined by two flat, linear surface plates 204 and two belts 301 independently trained about outside one of the two flat linear surface plates 204 using a combination of rollers provide a stiff, linear, no-friction plane scalable in dimension so as to form the linear nip area. Further, the linear nip area has an entrance defined by entrance rollers 312 and an exit defined by exit rollers 318 operating within each of the two belts 301. Pressure loading devices associated with each of the two flat linear surface plates provide a pressure required for the two flat linear surface plates 204 to achieve proper image performance and to enable the linear nip area. A thermal source is associated with two belts 301 respectively to provide heat directly to a surface of the two belts that will directly come into contact with a sheet 310 to be processed through the linear nip area.
