<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect duplicate data of W/P paths of a ring network in a transmission device, and discard. <P>SOLUTION: In the transmission device, an insertion and separation multiplexing conversion means 1 performs adding and dropping of a signal and cross connection. For example, if a FS-R control signal is received, bridges 3a, 3b distribute and output an output signal from the insertion and separation multiplexing conversion means 1 to routes of work of a ring network and protection. When the bridges 3a, 3b perform signal distribution, discard information insertion means 4a, 4b insert discard information in a signal of work sides which are output from the bridges 3a, 3b. A discard information detection means 5 detects whether the discard information is included in a signal which is dropped by the insertion and separation multiplexing conversion means 1.
