PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent polymer composition having excellent optical characteristics, in particular, excellent in transparency and high in a reflective index and wavelength dispersibility by dispersing both a surface-modified inorganic fine particle and a transparent polymer compound, and to provide an optical member. SOLUTION: The transparent polymer composition comprising (A) a carboxylic acid-surface-modified inorganic fine particle and (B) the transparent polymer compound, is characterized by the followings. The production of (A) the carboxylic acid-surface-modified inorganic fine particle is carried out by the followings. After non-hydrolytic reaction of at least one metal-containing compound selected from the group consisting of metal halides and metal alkoxides, with the first carboxylic acid-containing compound in a nonaqueous solvent, the resultant product is reacted with the second carboxylic acid-containing compound, substituting at least a part of the surface-modifying molecule portion, composed of the first carboxylic acid-containing compound, with the second carboxylic acid-containing compound.
