Metallic catalyst support (1) comprising thin long pitch corrugated sheets (2) and flat sheets (3) multiply piled one upon another so as to provide a multiplicity of cell passages (4) for pass of exhaust gas therebetween, the long pitch corrugated sheets (2) and flat sheets (3) provided with a multiplicity of slit apertures (5,6), the long pitch corrugated sheets (2) and flat sheets (3) on the surfaces thereof coated with a slurry having a catalyst component mixed therein, wherein with respect to individual slit apertures (5,6), the sum of the lengths (L) of opening edge portions (5a,6a) face-to-face with the exhaust gas inflow side providing leading edges for the flow of exhaust gas is set so as to be 4 to 8 times the sum of the lengths of exhaust gas inflow side end edge portions of corrugated sheets (2) and flat sheets (3) providing leading edges for the flow of exhaust gas.
