PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of yielding a high-quality image by surely correcting the positional deviation of the image.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes: an image carrier 400; an irradiation means 401 for forming a latent image on the image carrier 400 by irradiating with image light; a developing means 402 for developing the latent image to be a developed image; a first transfer means 403 to which the developed image is transferred from the image carrier 400; a second transfer means 404 for transferring the developed image to transfer paper by making the transfer paper pass between the first transfer means 403 and the second transfer means 404; a judgement means 408 for judging whether or not the second transfer means 404 abuts on the first transfer means 403; a set value varying means 409 for varying set values for making an image-forming condition variable when the judgement means 408 judges that the second transfer means 404 abuts on the first transfer means 403; a pattern image signal output means 406 for outputting a pattern image signal; a detection means 405 for reading respective color patterns and outputting them as a detection signal; and an arithmetic calculation means 407 for calculating the positional deviation from the output detection signal and generating correction data from the positional deviation.
