PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defrosting device capable of effectively and efficiently melting and removing the frost attached to an evaporator without being affected by the condition of outside air and the condition of a cooled space. SOLUTION: In a cooling device 4 for cooling the inside of a storage compartment 3 by cooling action of an evaporator constituting a refrigerant circuit 40 with a compressor 18, and melting and removing the frost attached to the evaporator 5 by a heater 26, a control device C controlling the heater 26, defrosts the evaporator 5 by the heater 26 when it is judged that operating efficiency of the compressor 18 or an average value of the operating efficiencies in a specific period of time becomes more than a prescribed upper limit value.
