PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for coating paper, giving coated paper which is free from the evaporation of formaldehyde, is excellent in product storage stability at low temperature (≤10°C), and has excellent water resistance. SOLUTION: This resin composition for the coating paper, comprising reacting of four or five components of (A) a polyamine, (B) (B-1) an alicyclic dibasic carboxylic acid compound and/or (B-2) a reaction product having free carboxyl groups at molecular terminals and obtained by reacting 1 mole of a glycol compound with 1 to more moles of the alicyclic dibasic carboxylic acid, (C) a urea compound, and (D) a cross-linking compound, is characterized in that the cross-linking compound is used in an amount of 0.01 to 0.1 mole per mole of the polyamine compound.
