PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating system capable of accurately detecting damage of a heat exchanger, and a damage detecting method for accurately detecting damage of the heat exchanger of the heating system. SOLUTION: A first part 6 partially small in the cross-sectional area in the horizontal direction, is arranged in an upper part of a tank 4. A predetermined liquid level 7 of a heating medium F in the tank 4 is set in the first part 6. A liquid level detector 16 is arranged for detecting that the heating medium F reaches the predetermined liquid level 7. A second part 15 is arranged in the upper part of the tank 4 separately from the first part 6. When the heating medium F reaches the predetermined liquid level 7, the second part 15 constitutes a siphon, and discharges the heating medium F outside the tank 4 via an opening 15a.
