The invention relates to coated particles, a process for production thereof, cation adsorbents, and water treatment system with the same. The coated particle of the invention are either particles obtained by surface-coating core resin particles with a surfacing resin having cation-adsorptive and -desorptive functional groups which are characterized in that the core resin particles are made of a thermoplastic resin and have a specific surface area of 50 to 6,000cm²/cm³ and the quantity of the surfacing resin is 10 to 300wt% based on the core resin particles or particles obtained by surface-coating core resin particles with a surfacing resin having cation-adsorptive and -desorptive functional groups which are characterized in that the core resin particles are made of a thermoplastic resin and have nearly spherical shapes having diameters of 10 to 1,200µm and the quantity of the surfacing resin is 10 to 300wt% based on the core resin particles. Thus, the invention provides cation adsorbents which exhibit high adsorption rates against cations such as ammonium ions or metal ions contained in raw water, high rates of regeneration of themselves, and high cation adsorbability as well as a small-sized water treatment system.
