Preparation of avian cell lines (A) able to proliferate in basal medium, in absence of growth factors, serum and/or feeder cells, is new. Preparation of avian cell lines (A) by: (a) growing avian cell in a medium containing all factors required for growth and an inactivated feeder layer; (b) passaging by changing the medium so as to produce a progressive or complete weaning from the growth factors, serum and/or feeder layer; and (c) establishing (non-)adherent cell lines that can proliferate in basal medium in absence of exogenous growth factors, serum and/or feeder layer. An independent claim is also included for cell lines produced by the new method that can proliferate for at least 50, particularly 600, days in medium that: (a) lacks exogenous growth factors; (b) has reduced, or zero, serum content and/or (c) lacks a feeder layer. |
