The rivet (3), to fasten together two overlapping components (1,2), has a hollow shaft (7) extending from the die head(5) which can expand laterally and longitudinally. The end of the shaft, away from the die head, has an inner shoulder (6) to support a tool (10) exerting pull and lateral forces. The inner shoulder defines an opening (9) of a smaller diameter to be expanded by the tool into a spread head (8). The tool can be removed through the expanded opening.
