An apparatus and a method for driving a display panel are provided to enhance lightness by representing lighter images in a center than edge portions of a screen. Gain values are set at each discharge cell in a center of a screen to have larger values than edge portions of the screen(S530). By multiplying the gain values and an input gray scale, an output gray scale is set(S550). The number of display discharges corresponding to the output gray scale are set in each discharge cell(S560). The discharge cells are driven to generate display discharge(S570).
