PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling water system for hydraulic machinery providing mid-air operation of the hydraulic machinery throughout a long period of time by suppressing temperature rising of cooling water. SOLUTION: The cooling water system 8 for hydraulic machinery is provided with an elbow type draft tube 4 connected to an outlet side of a pump turbine 1, and a water intake 9 provided in a position below the draft tube 4 and taking in cooling water to be supplied to an apparatus 7. A drain outlet 10 is provided in a position above a discharge passage 5 in a downstream side of the draft tube 4 for draining cooling water used by the apparatus 7 to the discharge passage 5.
