Disclosed is a deparaffinization method useful for the mass spectrometry imaging of a paraffin-embedded specimen. Specifically disclosed is a method for the deparaffinization of a paraffin-embedded specimen, which comprises the steps of: exposing a specimen comprising a biological sample embedded in paraffin to an organic solvent compatible with paraffin under heated conditions to melt and dissolve the paraffin in the organic solvent, thereby exposing the biological sample; and separating the organic solvent having the paraffin dissolved therein from the exposed biological sample to remove the paraffin from the specimen.
