FRAME INTERPOLATION DEVICE, FRAME FREQUENCY CONVERTER, FRAME INTERPOLATION METHOD, AND FRAME FREQUENCY CONVERSION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an image of an interpolation frame between two sheets of frames so that moving image blurring and judder do not occure by using images of two sheets of frames.

SOLUTION: For each of a pixel block pair comprised of a pixel block (BLa) of a first reference frame approximately at a point-symmetric position centering around an interpolation pixel in the interpolation frame and a pixel block (Blb) of a second reference frame, a degree of similarity between the two pixel blocks is calculated and a pixel located at the center of the two pixel blocks of a pixel block pair with the largest degree of similarity is selected as a reference pixel. The sum of absolute values of a difference between a pixel in one block and a pixel at a corresponding position of the other of the block pair is used for representing the degree of similarity.
