PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To classify a plurality of images into meaningful groups. SOLUTION: In a binary tree structure linking images p1 to p12 such that images having a shorter shooting time interval have fewer nodes in between, if the images linked by the root node are more than a predetermined number, the binary tree containing the images p1 to p12 is divided into two binary trees rooted at the child nodes linked by the root node. The divided binary trees are divided repeatedly until the images contained in the root nodes are at most the predetermined number. The images p1 to p12 are thus classified into groups of at most the predetermined number of images. The technique is applicable, for example, to an information processing apparatus capable of recording or reproducing images or content, such as an HDD recorder or a personal computer.
