PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared ray detector which can get to know a temperature distribution or average temperature of an object to be detected by taking out an output of each element selectively or simultaneously. SOLUTION: The detector comprises a plurality of the infrared ray detector elements (9) which are multiple-arranged in a line direction and a column direction, and are formed in array-like arrangement, a line selection switches (21-23) which take out the output of the infrared ray detector elements for every line direction, a column selection switches (11-19) which take out the output of the infrared ray detector elements for every column direction, a sensor part which is equipped with the mode switching switches (31-34) switching between a simultaneous output mode outputting simultaneously the output of the plurality of the infrared ray detector elements and a selection output mode which carries out the selection output of each of the plurality of the infrared ray detector elements from a mode selection signal (30). Further, the detector has a control part (41-46) switching on-off of the line selection switch and the column selection switch from the simultaneous output mode or the selection output mode, and the simultaneous output mode connects mutually in series the infrared ray detector elements which are connected in parallel in every line direction or in every column direction.
