PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle calculating apparatus for calculating the relative rotational angle of an inner rotating element with respect to an outer rotating element, using few sensors. SOLUTION: The rotation angle calculating apparatus comprises a rotating element with the inner and outer rotating elements having coaxially-disposed inner and outer rotating shafts at no load, and coupled by an elastic member relatively displaced and deformed in a plane which is orthogonal to at least inner rotating shaft, in response to a load; a plurality of displacement sensors, disposed in a plurality of different circumferential positions, equidistance from the rotating shaft of one of the inner and outer rotating elements, integrally rotated along with the other of the inner and outer rotating elements, provided at an equidistance from the other rotating shaft opposite in the direction orthogonal to the circumferential direction, and detecting a distance to a measured region of a measured member in the orthogonal direction; and a calculating means for calculating the relative rotational angle between the inner and outer rotating elements based on a plurality of distances detected by a plurality of the displacement sensors.
