Gear mechanism incorporating a signal transmission medium

A gear mechanism usable in an electric power steering system is provided. The gear mechanism includes a gear housing (23, 104) including a passage formed therein, a gear positioned in the passage, and a signal transmission medium (100) positioned in the passage adjacent the gear. A partition (60, 61, 62) is inserted into the passage to prevent contact between the signal transmission medium (100) and the gear.
