8-[3-amino-piperidin-1-yl]-xanthines, the production thereof and the use of the same as medicaments

Disclosed are substituted xanthines of general formula (I) and processes for its production. The compounds have pharmacological properties, especially an inhibiting effect on the activity of the enzyme dipeptidylpeptidase-IV (DDP-IV), and are used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus types I and II, arthritis, obesity, allograft transplantation and calcitonin-induced osteoporosis.
